Recovering from Vaginal Rejuvenation

It could be an area of concern for you – you might feel like you need to freshen up your feminine areas after having children or if time has taken its toll on your body. There is absolutely no shame in wanting vaginal rejuvenation surgery – so you feel like a woman again.

It’s only natural that after childbirth and the natural aging process, the skin and muscles in and around the vagina stretch and lose tone. You may even feel that this change in your vagina’s structure is affecting your sexual satisfaction.

Vaginal rejuvenation can change all of that.

What Is Vaginal Rejuvenation?

Vaginal rejuvenation is the term given to the reconstructive procedures that aim to tighten the skin and muscles around the vagina after being stretched from either childbirth or aging. Therefore, the catch-all term can actually refer to many different types of procedures.

These procedures can include vaginoplasty, labiaplasty, both vaginoplasty and labiaplasty combined, and beyond.

In the reconstructive process, your surgeon will bring the muscles that have been separated over time back together again – “tightening” them. During that process, the doctor will likely also remove any excessive skin from around the vagina, but that is mostly for aesthetic purposes and does not serve any medical purpose.

How Do I Prepare for Vaginal Surgery?

Prior to your operation date, be mindful of your doctor’s warnings, and follow instructions carefully. Most patients are asked to do a bowel prep procedure at home before the surgery. This is important because of the close proximity to the area your surgeon will be working on.

Before your surgery date, you will also want to adequately prepare for your life after the operation. Get all the supplies you will need for your recovery, including food and drinks you will need to recover.

What Happens After the Surgery?

Once the surgery has concluded, you will likely need a couple days of downtime where you will want to rest and take it easy. Doctors usually recommend that you place a pack of frozen peas or an eye pack on the surgical area to help reduce swelling and alleviate any pain.

It is normal to experience a deep ache for several days after the surgery while the area heals. It’s best to stay in loose clothing and undergarments for a few days as well.

Avoid friction as much as possible while you are healing, and remember the most important part: no tampons or intercourse for at least 8 weeks or until cleared by your surgeon. Otherwise, you could ruin the good work that was done during the procedure.

Risks of the Procedure

It’s always important to be aware of the potential risks before opting for vaginal rejuvenation or any other kind of surgery. You may experience an infection, bleeding, and/or pain in the affected area.

There is also the risk of more severe complications if your surgeon is not very experienced. It’s important to do your research, and properly vet a potential surgeon to perform your vaginal rejuvenation surgery.
